Immigrants in the hot ICE

Por dbloggers

Immigrants are living a hell in US since Donald Trump seized the power. Just before, during the campaign, he undertook a Crusade against emigrants with the dark purpose to force them to leave the country and come back from they came. Furthermore, another attempt to achieve his goal is to build a great wall across the Mexican border, one of the initiatives he wants to fulfill during his first administration. God helps them with that unique experience! ICE agreements have been already signed by 20 states with the backup of 75 law enforcement agencies and 17 memorandums across the country. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a US federal agency within the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Responsible for identifying, investigating, and dismantling weaknesses relating to the nation's border, economy, transportation, and infrastructure security. It was established in 2003 by merging the investigative and interior enforcement elements of the US Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

The purposes are clear crystal: sending back immigrants before any trial and give the enforcement agencies all the power against immigrants. It must be recalled that US Border Patrol has been law-suited several times by Nongovernmental Organizations that condemned the use of violence the and inhuman treatment immigrants receive when they are been caught by the border police.

The ICE law includes, among other charges, that immigrants can be sent back to their country for committing 5 common crimes like: foreign-born individuals driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, public intoxication and assault. No doubts that will start a witchhunt inside the US, where immigrants will be stopped constantly by authorities and asked for documents. Bad news for illegal immigrant people too who will be easily seized and the main target of county police officers. Actually, social activists have already denounced that undocumented people are victims of increasing wary crimes’ reports.

But the real concern of American Society and the Civil Rights Movement is how some people are agreeing with that inhuman law that can be a support for several crimes in its name. Actually, Harold Eavenson, in charge of National Sheriffs Association, has said people that come to US and commit a crime should be shipped out, in others words: kicked out of the country. Therefore, it is not an isolated fact that ICE is the DHS’s main investigative arm and the second largest investigative agency within the US federal government.

This decision would open the door to racism crimes and xenophobe in the name of the law. Then, is quite possible the number of immigrants increases behind bars. An interviewed citizen in Texas said ICE law will be carried out more effectively; US enforcement agencies should concern about massive gun shot or terrorist attack than illegal immigrants driving without car licenses. On the contrary, in a county of Texas, the ICE agreement was discussed in order to know which were their concerns and they agreed that “committing a minor offense is a prelude to deportation”, and that will happen frequently.

Regardless, sheriffs are very enthusiastic because ICE lawmakers their area of action to be extended and gives the authority to take proactive actions to avoid illegal activities.

The funny part of the issue is that ICE agreements and memorandum of training and collaboration have been signed precisely in the states where the immigrant population is higher. But doubts still remain. Would Dutch, Norwegian and German people living in America be deported too? Let´s see and believe!
