Does Mueller go for Trump?

Por Feco

During the campaign, members of the Trump team, including their son Don and son-in-law Jared Kushner (who now works as an adviser in the White House), met at the Trump Tower in New York with a Russian lawyer who offered compromising information about the candidate Democrat Hillary Clinton. These are just some of the elements against the current president.

The special prosecutor, Robert Mueller, has requested judicially to the Trump Organization, the matrix of the emporium that the president of the United States has, all the documents related to Russia. The request, advanced by The New York Times and waged weeks ago, shows how research into the alleged connections between the billionaire's campaign team and the Kremlin has advanced to the point of touching the corporate heart of the tycoon. The White House so far has maintained silence. In his previous statements, the president has always denied having had deals with Russia or having established any link with President Vladimir Putin.

The special prosecutor, however, has directed much of his efforts to unravel the international accounts and relations of the Trump network. Its financial statements and the possibility of having received credits backed by Russian firms are among its objectives. A minefield that the president considers an overreach of the investigator. Although he has not yet filed any accusation against the president and his family, Mueller has managed to impeach former national security adviser Michael Flynn, former campaign chief Paul Manafort, his partner Rick Gates and electoral adviser George Papadopoulos. Papadopoulos, Flynn and Gates have agreed to collaborate with the special prosecutor. Manafort, accused for tax crimes, however, has refused to plead guilty.

The possibility of Mueller bringing charges against Trump is growing day by day. Media such as Bloomberg have assured that the prosecutor already has his investigation finished in relation to the obstruction. This would be at the core of the dismissal of the FBI director, James Comey, after he refused to shelve the investigation of Flynn. But he still has open inquiries regarding collusion with the Kremlin and finances. Mueller's idea would be to finish them all and then present the accusations that can open the feared process of impeachment, according to El País.

Just in case, the Republican House of Representatives Intelligence Committee members announced Monday that they have completed their investigation and found no evidence of coordination between Donald Trump's election campaign and Russian interference in the run-up to the 2016 presidential elections. The conservatives want to shelve the controversy that surrounds the US president at a time when the special prosecutor in charge of the Russian plot has precisely broadened the focus of his inquiries and weighs whether to call to declare the president. The Intelligence Committee of the Senate also investigates the intrusion of Moscow.
