Donald Trump doesn´s like Green

Por qubano22005

Despite the efforts carried out to protect the environment and to develop several plans to reduce climate change and pollution, the United States of America decided months ago to withdraw from Paris Agreement. The powerful nation that would lead the efforts and tackle down climate change, stepped back. Ban Ki-moon, ex United Nation secretary, has spoken about the issue criticizing US position. He also said the United States represent currently a big problem. Trump’s unilateral decision creates serious troubles regarding the control of pollutant gases and the arguing between industrial countries as well as the aid to poor countries that are developing policies to protect the environment too.

The Paris Agreement was signed under United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to mitigate gas emission. One of the main targets of the agreement is to reduce global climate change and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Representatives of 196 nations adopted it by consensus on 12 December, 2015.

On June 1, 2017, United States’ President Donald Trump announced the nation would be out of all participation in the 2015 Paris Agreement. Short-visioned and only cared about his own fortune, Trump ended with the fact of America as worldwide environmental leader with silly nationalist arguments like it was the best for American economy and for unemployment levels that every year increase due to the money they give for environmental purposes; he only got condemned by world leaders and the epithets of dumb and tyrant. Also, he asked to renegotiate the arrangement or to make a new one, but European and UN leaders said the pact "cannot be renegotiated at the request of a single party". The president said, in that moment, that Green Climate Fund wanted to redistribute wealth from rich to poor countries which is a selfish statement of the international consensus that wealthy must balance. The irony lies that the contributions to the Green Climate Fund are lesser than the US defense budget. The difference is that Paris Agreement could help America to become the “cleanest" nation on earth.

Ban Ki-moon is really concerning about the issue because he believes US action is important since they can push other nations to limit carbon emissions. Besides, America could be a leader setting examples to deliver international aid to poor countries and fight, with their funds, global warming. In addition, US's withdrawing has imperiled the $100 billion-a-year of climate aid that will be given to the poorest nations by 2020 as a bill to reduce climate effects. Actually, Ban Kim-moon was pretty clear saying that it would be hard to obtain funds for that cause without the US, which designates billions of dollars for those purposes.

Europe has taken the empty space left by the US, and led by Macron and Merkel, still continue its policies to reduce gases and temperature, but Kim-moon is not quite sure because despite Europe’s efforts several troubles like refugees and Brexit are affecting the economy of the old continent.

Nevertheless, he has calmed down because the United Kingdom said despite Brexit´s results, they are morally and politically committed to Paris Agreement. Thus, Donald Trump is showing his capacity to lose international leadership and be a totally incompetent president. Then, it is not strange to hear him say low temperatures are good compared to global warming.
